S/S 2013 Trend: Sexy Sixties
It may still be nail bitingly cold outside but at least we know there is hope for the coming seasons when we take a peek at the brilliant trends coming our way for SS13. The sexy Sixties is back with a bang so make sure you get the wax strip out because it is time for the mini dresses galore, and flower power is back in action so drown you wardrobe with daisy dresses and paisley pants because this is a trend you do not want to miss. This year top designers such as Prada, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and PPQ are re-inventing the world of fashion with the old tricks of the 1960’s; Prada have added a certain maturity to the flower power design with applique and sticking to black and white so the outfit can be worn with flats for a daytime picnic or with heels on a night out.
Before we even start to talk about the clothing let’s not forget about hair and make-up as the 1960’s added a whole new level to the world of eye make-up. As we know twiggy was famous for her huge eyes and thick eyelashes so make sure to get the full effect you apply plenty on mascara and fake eyelashes this summer with nude or red lipsticks. And as for the hair the possibilities are endless, but if you do have short hair go for the smooth pixie cut (like Twiggy) and if you feel a little too boyish stick a cute bow headband in your hair like the Marc Jacobs model as it will add a touch of femininity to any outfit. On the other hand, If you have luscious long locks get a Bridget Bardot beehive going to add volume to whatever you wear; or if your hair is thinner or you prefer a more chic look follow the PPQ model and go for a super sexy slicked back ponytail that oozes sophistication.
Now back to the clothing, I must say one of favourite designers this season for the 60’s trend is Moschino because they have gathered all the best bits of the 60s and used them to create jaw dropping pieces. Possibly my favourite piece is the floral mini dress (middle image) because the simplistic, minimalistic colours mean that you can wear bold or metallic shoes to add a futuristic element to the outfit, also the shift dress style is completely versatile yet sophisticated therefore can be worn for any occasion which is the exact reason why the 60’s have come back into fashion, the adaptability of the clothing meant that it could be worn by anyone for any event. Likewise the dress amplifies the delicacy of women in the 1960’s with the pretty flowers and dainty frills, they might have been fighting for their rights but they still look fantastic.
All I can say I hope everyone decides to join the sexy 60’s trend this year because paisley patterns and flower power can liven up anyone’s wardrobe, the brave prints will tear away the dark winter months and bring out the summer sun. Monochrome prints will be utterly up-scale making you look a million dollars, especially with some block heels to emphasise just how 60’s you look.
