Fashion trends: Spring / Summer 2011

These are the final images taken from one of the first Fashion Brand Management styling projects we were given. As a group we were asked to put together a new trend for S/S 2011, style it (which is easier said than done!) and then put together a photoshoot.

For our trend we decided to combine the then current feminine trend of S/S 2010 with harsher, heavier items to create an edgier free. Main elements of our new trend include;

Lace

No, it’s not new. But, like all trends that span multiple seasons, it has evolved. Lace influences for Spring 2011 are more to the classic side with quality antique-style fabrics the key to the trend. Less of the allover, stretch lace and more of the unique takes.

Punk

A trend carried through from last year it will not be as much of a main trend but more of an influence added to other Spring/Summer trends. A hard look to get right sometimes it will need careful consideration to how its worn.

Biker

Another key trend to watch out for in 2011 is the the re-emergence of the biker chic. We’ve had the military look for a while now and although its been a great look and success, its time to move on. Although the biker trend has been hovering around for a while now and occasionally taken the limelight it has only been on trend for short periods. This season will see a real enhancement of this style with key elements such as the iconic leather jacket, pants and not to forget those motorcycle boots. The motorcycle jacket will become a real statement piece and we will see lots of variations of the style. Watch this space!
