UCLan welcomes new societies

Up to 13 new societies could be available for students to join this year.

Included in the list are the Japanese, Cultural Film and Mauritian societies.

The new influx brings more opportunities for students to get involved with extra-curricular activities.

Jack Banks, the Students’ Union’s Activities and Participations Officer was looking forward to the arrival of the new societies.

He said: “I think that the new societies are important to UCLan as it is always adding to the depth of societies that we have available and creates a greater depth and variety of activities for students to take part in.”

Whilst some of the clubs have been confirmed others including Japanese and Darts and Pool,  are still in progress of being set up such as the Duke of Edinburgh, Debating and Amnesty societies.

Lee Bradshaw, who is in the process of setting up a Labour Society, spoke of the importance for UCLan students to be politically involved.

“This society will give students the space to be able to learn how to campaign, listen to guest speakers and help change things,” he said.

Claire Wilkinson, the founder of the new Fashion society said: “I wanted to set up a new society to meet new people, get to know people with similar interests and network with other students.”

All clubs and societies will be at the Clubs and Societies Fair at 53 Degrees on Friday 16 September between 12 and 4pm for anybody wanting to sign up.
