To mark the opening of the week long celebrations, a Guild Vintage extravaganza will be held in Avenham Park. Working alongside locally born and internationally renowned designers Wayne Hemingway MBE and Gerardine Hemingway MBE, it will celebrate the creative cultural past, present and future of the region, through fashion shows, music, art and food. Avenham Park will provide the backdrop to a multi-venue playground where over two packed days and nights visitors can glam up, put their dancing shoes on, and join in a truly celebratory musical, sensory, and fashion-inspired event that as it unfolds takes us on a creative journey through time.
A Vintage Guild Weekend celebrates what us Brits do best…Fashion! With a history steeped in stories of the textile boom, cotton mills and 40’s fashion, the Guild of 2012 celebrates Preston’s Vintage Guilds and the style soaked eras, re-created by vintage enthusiasts across Lancashire and beyond.
We’re celebrating vintage fashion, style, hair & beauty through a series of events across the weekend that includes creative workshops, pop up catwalks, fashion flash mobs and pop up cinema!
Rain or shine our amazing Arts, Crafts and Fashion tent will be packed with hands-on workshops to help you increase your fashion knowhow. For those who want to get involved, you can wile away the weekend sampling pattern cutting, collage, embroidery, darning, and stitch all with a vintage twist.
Whether or not you come dressed to impress, our fantastic pop up dressing up box and talented stylists will be ready and waiting with vintage clothing from the 20’s, 40’s 50’s, 60’s and 70’s to turn you into a veritable vintage vixen, ready for your photo shoot in the pop up booth.
And if you’re heading to the Spirit of ‘42 Ball - celebrating the “Guild that never was" you might want to arrive early so our super vintage hair and make-up artists can coif you to perfection. It’s not just victory rolls on offer - the Pop up Parlour is offering 20’s kiss curls, finger curls, Charlies Angels waves and the beehive.
Our barber is in place for boys and offers both hair styling and wet shaves… if you dare!Take a breather from the music tents at our pop up cinema and the silver screen showing a program of vintage, present day and future fashion films. Wherever you are in the festival look out for the best of the North’s style including Graham and Brown sculptural dresses in a moving salon-style exhibition as well as the Best in Show catwalk Could it be you? We expect to see you in your thousands and our vintage style snappers will be out in force looking for vintage at its best!
