The Vintage Wardrobe
Yesterday I caught up with Sameera, owner of The Vintage Wardrobe, she told us about her time at university, what inspired her to set up her own business and what the future holds.
I studied Fashion Brand Management at the University of Central Lancashire and graduated in 2012. Over the three years there, I learnt a lot about marketing, PR, styling, visual merchandising, photography and time management, particularly in my final year.
My favourite part of the course was anything styling related. I loved organising photo shoots, sourcing clothes and creating looks, using vintage clothes in particular. Towards the end of the course, I did a couple of work experience jobs with Manchester based stylists, to develop my experience and skills.
Shortly after graduation, I began working on my business, The Vintage Wardrobe. I did some impromptu, yet great vintage fairs in December, then launched the business in January.
My business The Vintage Wardrobe specialises in hand picked women’s vintage clothing, shoes and accessories from the 1960s to the early 1990s. I sell items that are unique, yet very wearable through the website and at vintage fairs across the North West.
The Vintage Wardrobe was developed through my love of vintage. I’ve been wearing vintage for years and I love that feeling of excitement when you find an amazing, unique piece. After being rather familiar to that feeling, the thought hit me, ‘wouldn’t it be great to give other people this feeling? to be the one selling them such wonderful vintage’
So what’s next?
I’m currently planning more fairs for the year and looking into expanding my product range. I still love styling and I have plans to incorporate this into The Vintage Wardrobe in the future. But that’s all you’re getting, I can’t be giving too much away can I?
